Men and Women get the vote

In 1900 women did not have full voting rights, though by that time most men did.
Anna Munro was a Scottish suffragette (someone who campaigns for the right of women to vote) and was one of the founders of the Women’s Freedom League.
In 1912 Anna Munro walked from Edinburgh to London to protest because women were not allowed to vote for Members of Parliament and many women strongly objected to this.
Around 1912 some suffragettes started to break the law, as their peaceful campaigns had been ignored for many years. Suffragettes who were arrested for their protests often went on hunger strike in jail.
In 1918 women over the age of 30 got the vote and women finally got equal voting rights with men in 1928.
In the last Scottish Parliament elections, 50% of people didn’t bother to vote.
